Concert review
Backstreet's Back and Better Than Ever Backstreet boys Unbreakable tour live in Vancouver, September 04, 2008 By Dee
I have to start my review of the Backstreet Boys concert in Vancouver by saying that waiting thirteen years to see the Backstreet Boys live was well worth the wait. It's been over a decade since I became a Backstreet Boys fan - immediately after I heard them for the first time - and I'm happy to say that I finally got the chance to see my favourite musicians live. There are many words that could be used to describe their show here in Vancouver on September 4th 2008, of which the best would have to be: incredible.
The boys put on an amazing show. It displayed perfect execution of both their vocals and dance sequences. This being my first concert - or live performance for that matter - I was warned by some not to expect album quality vocals from the group since live performances hardly ever sound as good as those found on records. Well obviously, those warning me had never seen - or heard - a Backstreet Boys show, because the boys sounded unbelievably good. In addition to their sound, the boys' energy on stage was unreal. They had the GM Place crowd on their feet from the minute they first stepped on to the stage until well after they took their final bow.
The sold-out crowd went especially wild when the boys performed older hits such as "As Long As You Love Me," "All I Have to Give," "Quit Playing Games With My Heart," and "I Want It that Way." The boys' newer material also pumped up the crowd, especially the high energy dance numbers for "Treat Me Right" and "Panic." The solos each member performed also got good responses. Howie Dorough's "She's Like the Sun" was a sweet, powerful song. AJ McLean's high energy rock track, "Drive by Love" had everyone on their feet. Nick Carter's "I Got You" captivated all the Nick Carter fangirls in the crowd. And Brian Littrell had fans listening intently to his smooth vocals in "Welcome Home."
The best performance of the night in my opinion had to be "Everybody [Backstreet's Back]." While the entire show was full of energy and crowd-pleasing, nothing could compare to how GM Place reacted to "Everybody [Backstreet's Back]." The boys had the entire crowd on its feet, jumping, and singing along throughout the song. It was astounding to see how comfortable and at ease the boys seemed on stage. They had absolutely no problem assuring that everyone in the venue had an unbelievable time.
I know that a lot of people were initially shocked to hear that the boys were playing such a large venue like GM Place - despite the fact that it was originally supposed to be a half-bowl concert. Well, the sceptics were proven wrong when the show became a full concert only a few days after the start of the general public sale due to excellent ticket sales. Given the fact, it's obvious that the Backstreet Boys are still in high demand in Canada. That being said, Backstreet's Back, alright - and all their dedicated fans couldn't be any more ecstatic.
