JANUARY - Retiring diva Cher earmarked all the profits from her concerts in January for tsunami charities, and The Black Eyed Peas toured Indonesia's devastated Banda Ache region before performing at a fundraising concert in Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur alongside Lauryn Hill, Backstreet Boys and Wyclef Jean. APRIL - Rehabilitation continued as a theme in April - Billy Joel finished a stint in a treatment centre for alcohol dependency and declared himself fit and healthy. Meanwhile, Aaron Carter's mother begged him to check into rehab to kick his drug problems. April proved to be a trying time for the Carter family because Backstreet Boys singer Nick pleaded not guilty to two drink driving charges on 13 April and had his license revoked. MAY - Reformed boyband Backstreet Boys began the lone European date of their comeback tour on 30 May by running over a fan at Dusseldorf airport in Germany. Julia Wagner suffered a fractured leg as the group's bus edged through crowds. The five-piece made up for Wagner's injury by making her guest of honour at the show in Cologne the following night. source: Contactmusic | • 31.12.05 | by Talitha |

Backstreet Boys still here |
With their first studio album in five years, the Backstreet Boys seem to have reappeared and are about to take the world by storm. But how long are they in it for this time, wonders NIKI CHEONG, as he speaks to band member Howie Dorough in a phone interview from Florida. BOY bands from the past decade have come and gone – some more quietly than others. While splits from bands like Take That almost caused a national emergency, others like 911 or Code Red just disappeared into oblivion. Who? Exactly. That said, many bands have taken the cue from the Rolling Stones, with band members doing their own stuff but not officially calling it quits. Read more | • 23.12.05 | by Annemarie |
Jingle Ball rocks |
(...)The popular boy band of the late '90s, Backstreet Boys, also was there, a special treat for their fans since the group had disbanded temporarily after seven years of non-stop touring and recording. Now back together, the group recorded that night's performance of its new song, "Weird World." The song is available for download at Z100.com. All the proceeds from each download will benefit the American Red Cross to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. While it was fun to hear the Backstreet Boys perform some new recordings, it's always a treat to hear them go back to old standards with a song like "I Want It That Way" from their 1999 "Millennium" album. Judging by the crowd's enthusiastic response, we weren't the only ones who felt that way. Read more | • 23.12.05 | by Annemarie |

Men will be Boys |
Mid-90s icons the Backstreet Boys will make their presence heard I have to say that when it comes to girl/boy bands, I like Atomic Kitten better than the Backstreet Boys. The latter group was, of course, no small thing back in the day. BSB was a cult. It still is, sort of. In case you weren’t an initiate, the five Backstreet Boys are Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean and Kevin Richardson. Nick is the cute one, according to girldom. There’s one that wears leather and looks scruffy. He’s the bad Boy. Now you know everything you need to know about the Backstreet Boys, and you should be all set for their upcoming Bangkok show. That’s right. BSB is coming to Bangkok. Backstreet’s back. Omigod. Read more | • 16.12.05 | by Annemarie |

Backstreet Boys Visit the Texas Children's Hospital
|
TAMU at the Mature Fan Club reviewed the Backstreet Boys visit to the Texas Children's Hospital this past weekend. The Backstreet Boys were in Houston for Jingle Jam and it was arranged for them to visit Texas Children's Hospital. They were slated to be at the hospital for 1 1/2 hours but stayed for 3 hours and were just fantastic. They visited with 10 children who had illnesses ranging from bone infection, to needing heart transplants, cancer and those that had had heart surgery. The Boys were so wonderful to each of the patients and gave each of them special time with pictures, autographs and in EVERY room sang an a capella version of one of their songs. (Safest Place to Hide, I Want it That Way, I'll Never Break Your Heart (in Spanish for a patient and her family from Mexico), All I Have to Give, I can't remember them all!) Pop hit makers give thousands of girls something to scream about |
Ten thousand screaming girls can't be wrong. Or can they? Nearly 10,000 fans filled the Tacoma Dome for the eighth annual Jingle Bell Bash featuring a diverse lineup of pop hit makers culminating with the venerable Backstreet Boys. Most were tween and teenage girls, a crowd made for screaming. (...)The girls saved plenty of shrieks for The Backstreet Boys. Nick Carter went center stage to gently open "Just Want You to Know" with his guitar. Howie, Brian, AJ and Kevin joined him for dancing and harmonies then settled onto stools for "Crawling Back to You." The megahit "I Want it That Way" came off like an anthem with thousands singing along. BSB gathered around the piano and quieted it down for the tender breakup song "Incomplete," then quickly incited a riot during "Weird World" when Brian jumped from the stage into the arms of screaming girls. Jingle Bell Bash features Backstreet Boys reunion |
Curse you, Oprah! Sure, you give people free cars and stuff. But in one fell swoop you also single-handedly squashed the peace of mind of the boy band-loathing masses – people content to believe that trend to be deader than three-day-old road kill. That meddling Oprah breathed new life into the Backstreet Boys juggernaut late last year when she had AJ McClean (the one with the tattoos) on her show to talk about his stints in rehab. Surprise! The other BSBs walked on set. Reunion talk ensued. A new album, “Never Gone,” was ready and wrapped in cellophane by June. And – voila! – the Back Street Boys were back on stage Sunday night at the Tacoma Dome as the main attraction at the Jingle Bell Bash, the annual holiday gala put on by KBKS-FM (Kiss, 106.1).
