Backstreet Boy Nick Carter: My First Love Was Debra LaFave |
September 29, 2006 US online Backstreet Boy and House of Carters star Nick Carter confessed to Us Weekly on Friday that his first serious relationship was with infamous school teacher Debra Beasley LaFave. The pair met when they were teenagers living in Ruskin, Florida, near Tampa. "I met her in church, Carter tells Us exclusively. I was 15 and she was 14. It was my first relationship and I lost my virginity to her. I was head over heels for her and I loved the hell out of her." LaFave later became an eighth grade reading teacher at Greco Middle School in Temple Terrance, Florida. In 2004, LaFave was arrested at the home of a student, accused of having sex with him at her apartment, in her car, and in her classroom. She was 23 at the time and the victim was 14. Carter and LaFaves relationship ended in the mid-90s after LaFave began a Sapphic relationship and two-timed the up-and-coming singer. When I left to go on tour with the Backstreet Boys, I came back home and I heard she had cheated on me with a girl while I was on the road. That is why we broke up. I wanted to get back together with her until this child/teacher stuff happened. Carter, 26, admits that while hed always held a torch for his ex, the schoolhouse scandal ruined any chance of a reconciliation. The former Backstreet Boy told Howard Stern on Sirius Satellite Radio yesterday that he dated Debbie LeFave, 23, for 18 months when they were classmates, and busted up with her when he learned from pals "she had cheated on me with a girl." He kept quiet when the scandal broke because, "my publicist is like, stay as far away from that [bleep] as you can." Carter also discussed his sex sessions with Paris Hilton. "In the very beginning, you know, she was literally cleaning my carpet in my apartment . . . trying to act all domesticated," he related. "And then, before you know it, a month or two goes by and it's back to the old nose up in the air and who are you?" Of all the women he's slept with, LeFave was "probably No. 1. But maybe that's just because it was my first. Actually a lot of the girls I've just had the best sex with or best anything with have been just normal girls." Yet Backstreet Boy Nick Carter defends House of Carters for offering universal lessons as the Carter siblings reunite. "People out there in the world, and maybe in America, have gone through troubled childhoods and dysfunctional families and maybe there's something in this show that everybody out there can connect to," Nick said. "I want to bring my family back together, and why not show everybody?" House of Carters debuts at 9 p.m. Monday on E! Entertainment. It premieres just as Aaron has asked for his contract with Pearlman to be thrown out. In the series, the Carters live in a swank home in Beverly Hills, Calif., where they argue, cry, make up and discuss their parents' 2004 divorce. Nick, 26, tries not to act like the father, although a fight ensues when he asks for Aaron's respect. To Aaron, Nick reveals that he fears their sisters aren't motivated. They are Bobbie Jean, 24, who longs for a career in cooking; Leslie, 20, who is a singer; and Aaron's twin, Angel, 18, who hopes to be a model. A preview of upcoming scenes reveals that the siblings' stressful interactions give way to wrenching therapy. Despite the rough moments, the Carters are behind the show. "It gives us a chance to get back together, because we really haven't been together in a long time," Aaron told TV critics recently. Being in front of the cameras was no sweat for the Carters. "We're kind of used to it," Leslie said. "Their whole lives have been before the public eye," said executive producer Kenneth Crear, who manages Nick and Aaron. Nick started at 12 with the Backstreet Boys. Aaron began his career at 7. Their parents' priority was to have the brothers in show business, but that strategy left the three daughters behind, Nick said. "I'm kind of picking up the pieces," Nick said. The Carter kids have been living disparate and disjointed lives, and Nick feels it's his job as the oldest of the five siblings to step up to the plate and bring them back together - with just the right combination of motivation, firm direction and brotherly love. Supporting each other as they pursue professional and personal dreams, the brothers and sisters are hoping to rediscover the strength of family as they launch their own lives in the new series "House of Carters," premiering in October 2006 only on E! Like fame, controversy has followed the Carters. Having their parents as managers led to a lot of turmoil in the Carter family and relationships within the family were severely strained. Aaron's widely publicized petition for legal emancipation from his mother made tabloid headlines, as did Robert and Jane Carter's divorce in 2004. Ready to put the past behind him, Nick is at a turning point in his life. He remains busy with the Backstreet Boys but Nick is also considering what lies beyond the boy band while simultaneously maintaining a successful solo career. Nick is often considered the most popular member of "The Backstreet Boys" and is commonly referred to as the group's "heartthrob." Looking to his big brother, Nick, to find motivation and direction, Aaron is now at a turning point and has decided to dedicate himself to producing, writing and re-launching his recording career. Bobbie Jean is the oldest Carter sister at 24-years-old and is the only one of the siblings that has no showbiz aspirations. Most recently, Bobbie Jean has been staying at Aaron's LA apartment and working odd jobs. Bobbie Jean's latest idea is to try her hand at pursuing a cooking career and Nick is committed to helping her find a viable culinary school in LA. Two years later, the 26-year-old singer, who makes his reality show debut on October 2 with a no-holds-barred peek into his troubled family life on E!s House of Carters series, is finally ready to talk about his rocky romance with Hilton, now 25. I thought the fact that she had money and was famous meant I wouldn't have to worry about somebody using me, he says. I thought that. Wrong. I kind of fell head over heels for this girl. While the Backstreet Boys are still making albums, one of the Boys is trying to launch a Christian music career in Nashville . Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell wants to be a Christian artist, but it hasn't been easy so far.
While he loves to joke around, Littrell is quite serious about doing the Christian artist thing, despite the fact that it hasn't been the easiest road. Littrells Nashville-based Christian label was hoping for $200,000 to $300,000 thousand in album sales out of the chute, but after two Christian radio singles, Littrells first album has sold about 75,000 copies.
